We're not your typical suit-and-tie firm. Yeah, we wear suits sometimes, but what really matters is how we show up for our clients when things get complicated.
Look, we started Kinetovariant because we got tired of seeing businesses struggle with legal stuff that should've been straightforward. Too many firms were making things more complex than they needed to be, talking in circles, and honestly? Charging way too much for it.
Since opening our doors, we've worked with startups trying to figure out their first shareholders' agreement, mid-sized companies navigating their first acquisition, and established corporations dealing with regulatory headaches. Each one taught us something new.
The name "Kinetovariant" comes from our belief that law isn't static - your business changes, regulations shift, markets evolve. So should your legal strategy. That's what we do differently.
Three lawyers, one shared office space, and a lot of coffee. We handled our first client - a tech startup that couldn't afford the big downtown firms. They're still with us today, by the way.
Yeah, we launched during a pandemic. Not ideal timing, but it forced us to get really good at remote work and virtual closings. Turned out a lot of clients appreciated not having to trek downtown for every meeting.
We outgrew our space faster than expected. Moved into Suite 1800 and brought on four more lawyers plus support staff. Our M&A practice really took off this year - closed 23 deals, some of them pretty complex.
Added dedicated teams for IP protection and employment law. Realized our corporate clients needed more than just transactional work - they needed ongoing strategic advice across multiple areas.
We're a team of 15 now, working with over 200 active clients. Still figuring things out as we go, still learning, still adapting. That's kind of the point.
No legal jargon unless absolutely necessary. If we can't explain it clearly, we probably don't understand it well enough ourselves.
Business moves fast. We return calls same-day, turn around drafts quickly, and don't let deals die from slow response times.
We care about your business goals more than showing off our legal knowledge. Sometimes the best legal advice is knowing when not to overcomplicate things.
We're here to protect you from actual risks, not imaginary worst-case scenarios that'll never happen. Risk assessment based on reality, not paranoia.
Managing Partner
Corporate law and M&A. Been doing this for 15 years, worked at two big firms before starting Kinetovariant. Still gets excited about closing deals.
Partner, Corporate Compliance
Governance and regulatory stuff. Former in-house counsel, so he gets what it's like on the client side. Makes compliance actually manageable.
Senior Associate, IP & Tech
Intellectual property and tech transactions. Started as a software developer before law school, so she actually understands what our tech clients are building.
Associate, Employment Law
Employment and HR issues. Represents both companies and execs in negotiations. Good at finding middle ground that actually works for everyone.
Associate, Commercial Contracts
Contract drafting and negotiation. Previously worked in procurement, so she knows what terms actually matter and what's just negotiating theater.
Associate, Regulatory Affairs
Licensing and regulatory compliance. Helps clients navigate bureaucracy without losing their minds. Has contacts at pretty much every regulatory body in Ontario.

Honestly, we're more proud of our client retention rate (92%) and the fact that most of our new business comes from referrals. But yeah, the awards are nice too.
We do about 200 hours of pro bono work annually. Not because it looks good on our website (though, here we are), but because access to legal advice shouldn't just be for people who can afford Bay Street rates.
Startups advised through Toronto Business Incubator program
Pro bono legal services provided to non-profits last year
Community legal clinics where our lawyers volunteer monthly
We also mentor law students, host workshops for small businesses, and volunteer with Legal Aid Ontario. Some of our team serves on non-profit boards. It's part of who we are.
If you're looking for a firm that'll actually listen to what you need, respond quickly, and won't bury you in unnecessary billable hours - we might be a good fit.
We work with businesses of all sizes, from seed-stage startups to established corporations. Different clients, same approach: practical advice, clear communication, fair pricing.
